priority, but once found and we sell everything to obtain the treasure (Matt. 13.44), we are to pray for the rule and reign of God to be here on earth just as it is in heaven (Matt. 6.10). The Kingdom of God, His rule and reign, is inevitable. Jesus, while walking this earth, knew this reality. Everyone will bow their knee (Phil. 2.10) to the ruler of this Kingdom, Jesus the Lord. And when that time comes, the kingdom of this world and its ruler, the prince of the power of the air, “will become the Kingdom of our Lord of His Christ and He will reign forever and ever” (Rev. 11.15). But that time hasn’t come yet. Now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6.2) and those who have submitted to the rule and reign of the Kingdom of God, who have found the treasure in the field and sold all they have to purchase it (Matt. 13.44), are tasked to pray and to go and urge others to seek it. In 2000, Dr. Don Davis, wrote a short manifesto called Let God Arise: A sober Call to Prevailing Prayer for a Dynamic Spiritual Awakening and the Aggressive Advancement of the Kingdom in America’s Inner Cities. In the manifesto, Dr. Davis writes that a “deep conviction that the cities of the world could not be won without an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the people of God in the city.” If ever this conviction was true, it is now. The cities of the world are going from bad to worse, from evil to evil. What David saw while overlooking his city has been multiplied many times over, “For I see the violence and the strife in the city. Day and night they prowl about on its walls. Destructive forces are at work in the city. Malice and abuse are within it. Threats and lies never leave its streets (Ps. 55.10-11). Destructive forces are at work in the city” (Ps. 55). We need the Kingdom to come and invade this world. Without the Lord’s intervention there is no hope. As Dr. Davis says, “the city would be utterly futile if the Lord failed to ‘show up and show out.’ ” It is only God who can take cities for Himself. Only He can confront the forces of darkness and the spiritual darkness
