2. Hospitality, Heb. 13.1-2 – Let brotherly love continue. [2] Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (cf. Deut. 19.34; Deut. 10.18-19; Matt. 25.35ff.; Rom. 12.13; 1 Pet. 4.9). 3. Generosity, 2 Cor. 8.9 – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich (cf. Heb. 6.10-11; 10.24-25; Acts 20.35; Ps. 41.1-3; 112.5-9; Prov. 19.17; Isa. 58.7-12; 2 Cor. 9.6-12; Phil. 5.17-20).
4. Why these as tokens of the Kingdom?
a. No one is excluded; everyone can do them.
b. We were created in Jesus to do them, Eph. 2.10.
c. Freely we have received, freely we ought to give, Matt. 10.8 – Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.
d. John, Jesus, and the apostles related them in their teaching constantly, e.g., Luke 14.12-14 – He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. [13] But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, [14] and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” (Cf. Matt. 6.16-18; Matt. 5.46; Luke 6.32-36)
