2. The enablement of the Holy Spirit

II. The Character of the Teaching Ministry

The Gift of Teaching as One of Christ’s Spoils for the Church

Even Isaiah’s suffering servant is essentially a warrior figure who will be “exalted and lifted up” (Isa. 52.13 NRSV). God declares, “Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong” (Isa. 53.12 NRSV). Jesus refers to his own triumph over demonic powers when he speaks of defeating the “strong man,” Satan, and dividing up the spoils (Luke 11.21–22).
