2 Cor. 10.1 - I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ - I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away! Phil. 2.5-8 - Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, [6] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, [8] he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 1 Pet. 2.21-23 - For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. [22] He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. [23] When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. Perhaps no trait displayed in our lives gives greater claim of Jesus’ presence within us than the simple lowliness that he displayed in every facet of his life. We ought to follow in his steps. Again, it is important to note the context of this lesson content to be what was emphasized in a previous note before. If Jesus is the Suffering Servant of the LORD, and if his teaching, ministry, and conduct coincide with the figure, we have great confidence to also believe that he is in fact the Davidic Messiah to come, the one whomGod would appoint to reign and rule over his people. Pay careful attention to these objectives in this light, that is, the light of how Jesus’ character reveals his identification with the Servant of the Lord. Remember, Jesus introduces his Messianic call with a quotation of the Song of the Servant in Isaiah 61.1-3. Luke 4.16-21 - And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. [17] And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, [18] “The
