your students share regarding the nature of discipleship, leadership, and the Christian faith. Make sure that you reemphasize the objectives of the lesson here. As mentor, you will want to help them “unpack” these ideas carefully, for they will carry great weight and implication for every dimension of their lives and ministries as they progress. A bloodless, non-suffering Messiah is not a biblical one . By the end of the second class session, you ought to have made clear to the students their need to have done all the mind work, leg work, and planning necessary to carry out their Ministry Project. Also, by this time, the end of the third session, you should have also emphasized the need for them to select their biblical text for their Exegetical Project. Both the Ministry Project and the Exegetical Project, in order to be done excellently and thoroughly, require ample time and good planning. The earlier they can think through these assignments, the better they will carry them out. Please, do not fail to emphasize to them the need to plan ahead. The end of any course is usually its most difficult season, when a number of assignments become due and the exam looms on the horizon. Often times, when students do not plan ahead and prepare for the sudden rush of assignments, they suffer greatly. Too many things become due, and the added pressure of time interferes with the quality of their work. Any way that you can remind them of the need for advanced planning will be wonderfully helpful for them, whether they realize it immediately or not. Because of this, we advocate that you consider docking a modest amount of points for late papers, exams, and projects. While the amount may be nominal, your enforcement of your rules will help them to learn to be efficient and on time as they continue in their studies.
