The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. The Great Commission of our Lord fulfills the Old Testament prophecy regarding God’s offer of salvation to the world, and serves as a strong evidence and ground for Jesus’ authority as the risen Lord and Messiah. His proofs, the sending of the Spirit and ascension to the throne of God, serve as further signs which vindicate Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah of God. Be clear and concise in your answers, and where possible, support with Scripture! 1. What are some of the various aspects of the Great Commission covered in our lesson today? How does the authority of Christ ground and serve as the basis for the Great Commission itself? 2. How does the Old Testament relate to the mandate of Jesus to go and make disciples among all nations? In what way does Jesus’ commission fulfill Old Testament prophecy regarding God’s kingdom offer of salvation to the nations? 3. Explain the sentence: “The heart of discipleship is instruction and obedience to the commands of the Messiah, the greatest of which is love.” 4. What is the relationship between Jesus’ commission to make disciples in Matthew 28.18-20, and the repeating of the command to go to the ends of the earth in Acts 1.8? 5. What is the significance of Jesus’ forty-day period with his Apostles following his resurrection? How does Jesus make plain during this period that his kingdom offer is global , a promise not only for Jerusalem and Judea, but for the entire world? 6. How is the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit a direct link to the end times, to the promises of the Age to Come? How did John the Baptist foresee Jesus’ baptism of his own with the Holy Spirit? 7. What role does the sending of the Holy Spirit play in proving Jesus of Nazareth to be the Messiah of God? 8. What are the facts surrounding the ascension of Jesus to the throne? What is the importance of the ascension as to its meaning and importance for missions, the Church, and his current reign as Lord? 9. What is the connection between the ascension of Jesus and his coming in power, at the end of the age?
