The Messiah Revealed
Segment 2: Revealed through His Passion and Resurrection
Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
The suffering and death of Jesus (i.e., his Passion) provides us evidence of Jesus’ identity as the promised Messiah. Peter’s confession of Jesus’ true identity as Messiah, accompanied by Jesus’ prediction of his death, and his resolve to go toward Jerusalem support our claim that Jesus is Messiah. All of the events of Jesus’ final week, from his triumphal entry into Jerusalem until his agony in prayer in the Garden, his suffering and crucifixion, and his burial give strong and undeniable testimony of his identity as God’s Messiah. Our objective for this segment, Revealed through His Passion and Resurrection , is to enable you to see that: • Jesus’ suffering and death (i.e., his Passion) provide us with clear evidence of his claim to be the promised Messiah. • Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Messiah of the living God, accompanied by Jesus’ prediction of his death and his resolve to go toward Jerusalem, reveal his intent to fulfill the biblical prophecy regarding Messiah. • Jesus’ last week includes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, his encounters with the Jewish leaders, and sharing of the Passover meal with his disciples where he announces the new covenant in his blood. • Messiah’s final events during his Passion week include the various events surrounding his crucifixion and death, his agony in prayer in the Garden, his death on the cross, and his burial in the tomb. These events give strong and undeniable testimony of Jesus’ identity as God’s Messiah, the Son of God.
