In this lesson we have carefully considered the way in which OT character types can provide us with insight into the work of Jesus Christ, especially in his roles as a prophet (in the person of Moses), as priest of the Most High God (in the person of Melchizedek, king of Salem), and as anointed king (in the person David, king of Israel). We also explored the lives of Adam, Joseph, and Joshua, through which we more clearly understood Jesus’ identity as Head of a new humanity, as Savior and Redeemer of his kinsmen, and as Mighty warrior in God’s conquest. In our next lesson, we will explore both the nature and scope of OT Messianic prophecy as it relates to providing us with a clear OT witness to Christ and his Kingdom. We will look at some general characteristics about the nature and importance of OT Messianic prophecy, and then cover quickly the outline of OT Messianic predictions which are repeated in the NT. We will look at predictions fulfilled in Jesus Christ concerning his birth, his person and life, his death, his resurrection, and coming glory. We will also consider how God has extended the promise and blessings of Abraham to the Gentiles, to all who believe in Jesus Christ as Messiah. Through the OT witness to Christ, we gain real insight into God’s design to include the nations in his redemptive purpose; the one who eventually will deliver Zion has also determined to save out of the world a people who will forever belong to him. Amen!
