T he S eason after P entecost

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost July 11 - 17, 2020 • Proper 10 During “Ordinary Time” (Kingdomtide), we consider God’s saving acts through the unfolding of our days. As Christus Victor, Jesus is exalted at God’s right hand, and he must reign until his enemies are put under his feet. He is the head of the body, the Church, and now he empowers his people to bear witness of his saving grace in the world. THIS WEEK’S THEME Christus Victor: Recapitulation: Christ in the Old Testament, John 5.39 Christ is pictured, promised, prefigured, and prophesied in all the Old Testament. The Pharisees and teachers of the Law made careful and exacting study of the Hebrew Scriptures, but they missed the whole point. The Scriptures bear witness to Christ. The word that God speaks in all Scripture is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus is the unity and final meaning of the text. He is the hero of the story, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
