C. One marvelous result: increasing depth and Christlikeness experienced by members of the Church.

1. The goal of the Church’s witness is that the Church will grow in both number and maturity, resulting in members who become more like Christ in their individual lives and service to the world.

2. Goal of spiritual activity: the reproduction of Christ’s life in the Church. Christlikeness is the goal of all discipleship.

a. Great Commission focus: teach the new believers to observe and follow everything that Jesus commands.

b. This focus on Christ and his Word is key to biblical discipleship in the Church. Above all else, becoming like Jesus in his life, death, and resurrection is the explicit goal of the Christian’s life.
