The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. A thoroughgoing study of the elements of the Great Commission is critical for Church men and women to understand the Church’s relationship to the world, and its call to proclaim the good news of salvation to the lost in it. The three elements of going, baptizing, and teaching make up the heart of our corporate calling to give witness to Christ and his Kingdom, and the Church is called to be ever vigilant in following through on each of these three dimensions of its life and ministry. Make sure that you comprehend and can articulate the basic tenets of each element, and can relate that element to the Church’s role as witness. Be clear and concise in your answers, and where possible, support with Scripture! 1. What is the nature of the statement “Great Commission,” and what are the three elements emphasized within it which summarize the responsibility of the witness of the Church? 2. What is the meaning of the phrase in the Great Commission, “Go into all the world and make disciples?” What is the relationship of disciple-making to evangelism and missions? 3. What is the nature of the scope of the commission to go into all the world, in other words, whom has Jesus asked us to make disciples of, and where are we to make them? 4. What is the nature of baptism in the witness of the Church? What is the relationship of water baptism to saving faith in Jesus Christ? If baptism does not directly save us, what are the reasons why every new believer ought to be baptized? 5. How is baptism related to incorporating new believers into a church? Why is it impossible for a believer to thrive and prosper if they are never incorporated into a local body of believers? 6. How is our union with Christ demonstrated through our baptism? Why is demonstration of this union so important for Christian growth and maturity? 7. How does the phrase “teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you” fill out our understanding of the Great Commission? Who has been given the task to proclaim and teach the Word of God in the Church?
