Make certain you set aside ample time to carefully read the upcoming textbook assignment, as well as respond to the material by filling out your worksheet containing your summary of the reading material for the week. Also, by this time in your study you should have selected the text for your exegetical project, and have turned in your proposal for your ministry project. If you have not, please do so as soon as possible. Our next lesson is directly related to the theme of lesson three. Our next study is entitled, “The Church at Work,” and its aim is to understand the various dimensions and elements of the Church, and how we may detect authentic Christian community through the Church’s actions and lifestyle. We will use the marks and definitions which arise from the Nicene Creed, the teaching of the Reformation, and the rule of St. Vincent to understand and evaluate claims of true congregations from untrue. We will also look at the works of the Church through different images which we will use as lens to understand what the Church is to do in its life and mission. These images will include the household of God, the body of Christ, and temple of the Holy Spirit, the ambassadors of Christ, and the army of God.
