2. As those who believe in him, we are to mimic him. Our Lord did not retaliate. He never repaid evil for evil. Vengeance belongs to God, Rom. 12.17-21.
3. We are to do good, to engage evil but to do righteousness, to engage in works of good and be willing to suffer. To engage the evil but not necessarily to win. Peter gives us the example of following in Jesus’ steps as the one who prototypically gave himself even to the death on the cross, 1 Pet. 2.21-24.
Conclusion
4
» We are in fact to do the works of God.
» We have seen how the images of the New Testament help us to understand that role:
» As the household of God,
» The body of Christ,
» The temple of the Spirit,
» As ambassadors for Jesus, and
» As soldiers in God’s army.
» We are to do the works of God and so minister in God’s name in the city and beyond.
