4. He loved them to the end.
a. John 13.1 – Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
b. John 17.16 – They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
c. John 17.26 – I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
5. He modeled for them a kingdom lifestyle which they were to imitate and express, John 13.14-16 – If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. [15] For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. [16] Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
B. He represented his Father with perfect faithfulness.
Matt. 11.27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
1. He revealed the Father’s glory, John 1.18; 17.6; 17.26.
2. He communicated the Father’s mind, John 15.15 – “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
