Band of Brothers - Why We Fight
SIAFU Mens Conference, Band of Brothers: Why We Fight Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis, p. 41
B. B REAK IT DOWN ! God provides us with fellow soldiers for the sake of protection, encouragement, and inspiration
1. Faithful, outstanding fellow soldiers provide protection to us (“they watch our backs–and our flanks!), Gal. 6.1-2; Prov. 20.6; Prov. 17.17
Ruth 1:16 – But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
a. Who is your commanding officer? ( Who do you follow? )
b. Who are your fox-hole buddies? ( Who do you stand with? )
c. To whom do you serve as both a commander and leader? ( Who do you lead? )
2. Fellow soldiers also provide us with encouragement and support when we are wounded, hurt, or discouraged, Prov. 18.24
3. If we are under godly authority, and fighting beside our brothers, we are likely to be both inspired and pushed forward by their examples of sacrifice and service,“He who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.”, Job 6:14 (cf. Rom. 12.15; 1 Cor. 12.22-26)
C. C HECK THIS OUT . We can stand and endure tough times longer and better when we fight valiantly alongside our brothers in arms!
1. We can endure hardship and loss better: Ruth and Naomi, Ruth 1.1-22
2. We can withstand opposition that is both unfair and ungodly together: David and Jonathan, 1 Sam. 18.1-16
