II. The Word Calls Us to Liberty in Christ as an Opportunity to Fulfill the Great Commandment, and for the Purpose of Saving Others for the Cause of Christ.

A. Because of the all-sufficient work of Jesus Christ on the Cross, God calls all his disciples to live free, to liberty in Christ.

1. It was for freedom that Jesus won the victory, and we ought not be entangled in any yoke of bondage.

a. Christ has set us free through his death on the cross, Gal. 5.1.

b. We were called to freedom, Gal. 5.13.

2. Through the blood of Jesus, we have been liberated from all forms of self-righteousness and sinful bondage, John 8.31-36.

3. Through faith in Christ we have received the Holy Spirit who has made us ministers of the new covenant, 2 Cor. 3.17.

B. The dimensions and elements of the freedom we have in Christ.

1. We have been set free from the guilt and condemnation of the Law, Rom. 8.1-4.

a. In Jesus Christ we have been set free from all condemnation.

b. Our flesh makes righteousness through the Law impossible.
