2. God’s Word produced conviction in the remnant after the Captivity, leading them to glorify God in their sacrifices and obedience, Ezra 7.10ff.

3. God’s Word produced conviction of sin in the great revival of Josiah which revived the nation, 2 Kings 22.13.

II. The Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, Convicts the World of Righteousness.

A. The Word of God reveals four aspects of righteousness.

1. God Almighty is perfectly righteous in his being. His righteousness is revealed to be unchangeable and infinite.

a. God’s righteous being never wavers or changes, James 1.17.

b. God is righteous in everything he does, Deut. 32.4.

2. The righteousness of humankind is seen as both stained and unacceptable to God, Isa. 64.6-7.

3. The third aspect of biblical righteousness is the kind that God lays to our account because we believe in Jesus Christ.
