This lesson focuses upon the importance of solid biblical doctrinal content in all evangelistic ministry. Evangelism that is effective finds its alpha and omega in the person and work of Jesus Christ, who himself is its central message and focus. In order to equip others for evangelism, and to be equipped ourselves, we must master the Word of God regarding the person of Jesus, giving those who hear it a full and clear understanding of God’s working in Christ to save us and liberate us to be his people under his reign. While the Gospel (i.e., Good News) of Christ is known by a number of names in the New Testament, all of them refer to the same message, i.e., God’s offer of redemption and deliverance in the person of Jesus Christ. Evangelism is seen in Scripture both (and primarily as) proclaiming the message of salvation in Christ and demonstrating that message through our love and service to others. Romans 10.9-10 provides a clear, simple, and powerful understanding of the message of the Gospel as confession of Jesus’ lordship and faith in his resurrection from the dead. In order to win others to Jesus and train those already won to do the same, we simply must know the truth concerning Jesus Christ . Evangelism is telling people of the person and work of Jesus Christ! A thorough knowledge of who Jesus is and what he did lies at the heart of our faith and of the Gospel.
