Gospel of John 09.vp

Session 4: Giving of Living Water, God’s Eternal Son, Light of the Wor ld 105

1. For judgment he has come into the world: the reversal of physical and spiritual blindness (cf. Isa. 42.16-19; Jer. 5.21).

2. Those who do not see may see: Those who are blind, once they admit it, may be made to see .

a. John 12.46 – I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.

b. Acts 26.18 – to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.

c. 2 Cor. 4.4-6 – In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. [5] For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. [6] For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowl edge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

3. Those who see may become blind: Those who are certain that they see, are the most spiritually blind .

a. Isa. 44.18 – They know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand.

b. Matt. 13.13 – This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
