peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.

b. They mystery of the Gospel, Col. 1.26-27 – the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. [27] To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

D. Jesus as the representative of the Father, 10.17-18

1. The reason the Father loves Jesus: I lay my life down in order to take it again , 10.17.

2. No one took the life of Jesus from him; his sacrifice was unconditional and voluntary , 10.18 (cf. John 19.11 – Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”)

3. This charge Jesus received from the Father and obeyed it, 10.18b.

a. Phil. 2.6-8 – who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, [8] he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

b. Titus 2.14 – who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
