6. Their response to Jesus’ declaration of his true identity: The Jews picked up stones again to stone him , 10.31.

a. Prov. 29.1 – He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.

b. Prov. 12.15 – The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

c. Prov. 15.31 – The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.

d. Prov. 26.12 – Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

B. Jesus answers the charge of blasphemy: You, being a man, make yourself God , 10.32-39.

1. Jesus’ question: Of all the good works from my Father I’ve shown you, for which do you seek to stone me? , 10.32.

2. The Jews’ response: Not for good works but for blasphemy – you’re only a man, yet you make yourself God! , 10.33.

3. Jesus’ use of Scripture: Ps. 82.6 – I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you.”

a. A Psalm of Asaph condemning the unjust leaders of Israel for their unrighteous acts
