3. Martha’s conditional statement: If you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know God will give you anything you ask for, 11.22.

5. Martha’s theological appeal: I know that he’ll rise again in the resurrection on the last day , 11.24.
6. Jesus as the Resurrection and the Zoe (Greek, life)
a. John as the Gospel of life (cf. Zoe used 38 times in John, but only 7 in Matthew, 4 times in Mark, and 5 times in Luke)
b. Jesus collapses the event of resurrection into his person: I am the resurrection and the life, 11.25.
c. Those who die and who believe in him shall indeed live, 11.25b.
d. Those who live and believe in him shall never die, 11.26.
e. The critical response Jesus desires to hear about his claim: Do you believe this? , 11.26.
7. Martha’s faith: Yes, Lord I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is coming into the world, 11.27.
