B. Belief in Jesus dispels the darkness, 12.46.

1. Jesus’ life is the light of men , John 1.4-5 – In him was life, and the life was the light of men. [5] The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

2. Jesus is the light of the world .

a. John 8.12 – Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

b. John 9.5 – As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

3. The call of the apostles through the gospel is to call people from darkness to light, Acts 26.18 – to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.

C. The nature of the judgment of the one who rejects Jesus’ appeal, 12.47-48

1. Jesus did not come into the world ( the first time ) to judge the world, 12.47.

2. Jesus’ word of proclamation will judge those who reject on the last day, 12.48.

D. Jesus as the agent ( shaliach ) of the Father, 12.49-50
