speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

b. 1 John 2.27 – But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything—and is true and is no lie, just as it has taught you—abide in him.

c. 1 John 4.6 – We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

4. The world cannot receive the Spirit of truth , 14.17.

a. The world does not see him (what is the meaning of the word “ see ” in this context?).

b. The world does not know him.

5. The disciples do in fact know him, for he dwells with them and will be in them , 14.17b.

6. Jesus promises not to abandon the disciples as orphans: I will come to you, 14.18 (by implication, the coming of the Holy Spirit is the presence of Jesus in their midst again! ).

7. Jesus’ explanation of the coming events, 14.19-21, I will be invisible to the world, but I will be present and visible in your midst.
