Gospel of John 09.vp
Session 7: Giver of the Spirit, High Priest of Heaven, the Shorn and Si lent Lamb 175
f. Eph. 1.20-23 – that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, [21] far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. [22] And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, [23] which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. g. Col. 1.17-18 – And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
5. Therefore I said he will take what is mine and declare it to you, 16.15b.
III. Grief Turned into Joy, 16.16-33
This portion of John 16 reveals the pastoral heart of our great Messiah for his troubled little flock. The Lord promises that the events about to occur, as bleak and terrible as they might appear, will not hold. The grief and confusion that the disciples feel at this particular moment will be transformed into joy. Jesus here assures the disciples of his victory over the world, and their experience and sharing of that victory soon.
A. Sorrow will be turned into joy, 16.16-24
1. Jesus’ assertion about “a little while”: A little while you won’t see me, then again a little while you will see me, 16.16.
