2. The disciples’ questions: stunned and confused, 16.17

a. What does he mean about “a little while” ?

b. What does he mean about “I am going to the Father”?

3. The disciple’s confusion: We do not know what he is talking about, 16.18.

4. Question: How much do you suppose during this entire episode that the disciples actually understood in all that Jesus was saying ?

B. The Conqueror of the world, 16.25-33

1. Jesus recognizes their questions about his phrase “a little while” and their misunderstanding, 16.19.

2. The world’s rejoicing lies ahead, and your sorrow, but the tables will be turned: Your sorrow will turn into joy , 16.20.

a. Rom. 5.2 – Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

b. Gal. 5.22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy , peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.

c. 1 Pet. 1.6-7 – In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, [7] so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes
