The Gospe l of John
a. Matt. 13.10-11 – Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” [11] And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.” b. Matt. 13.34-35 – All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. [35] This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”
c. Ps. 78.2 – I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old.

3. The reason the Father will listen: For the Father himself loves you, BECAUSE you have loved me and have believed that I came from God, 16.27.
4. The plain truth about Jesus of Nazareth: I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father , 16.28.
D. I have overcome the world, 16.29-33.
1. The disciples’ acknowledgment of Jesus’ words: Now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! , 16.29-30.
