patience, bearing with one another in love, [3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— [5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
1. Jesus prays for all those who would come to believe in him through the word of his own disciples, 17.20.
2. THAT THEY MAY BE ONE, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us , 17.21a
3. The result of this remarkable unity : That the world may believe that you have sent me , 17.21b
4. The source of our unity with the Father and the Son: Jesus shares the glory that the Father gave him with us , 17.22.
a. That they may be one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one , 17.23.
b. This oneness will reveal to the world that the Father sent Jesus and loved us even as he loved Jesus! , 17.23.
5. The climax and zenith of Jesus’ high priestly prayer: Father I desire that they also whom you have given me may be with me where I am to see my glory that you have given me.
a. To be with Christ where he is
b. To see his glory that the Father has given him
