c. Andrew’s response: There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish – but what are they for so many? , 6.8-9.
3. Jesus has the crowd sit, men being about five thousand in number, 6.10.
4. Whatever you have, when given to Jesus, if he blesses it will be multiplied beyond our wildest dreams: Jesus’ transformation of the boy’s lunch, 6.11-13.
a. Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks for them, and distributed them to those seated (so also with the fish, as much as they wanted ), 6.11.
b. Gathered up the fragments left over, 6.12-13.
5. The people’s response to the sign that Jesus had done: This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world! , 6.14.
a. In Moses’ day, the Lord gave his people manna, his special provision of bread from heaven.
b. Moses spoke of God’s promise to send a Prophet who would be heard by the people, Deut. 18.15-18.
c. Jesus is the Prophet of Moses’ prophecy, the One through whom God now is known and understood (cf. John 1.14-18; Heb. 1.2; Col. 1.15-18).
