VII. Jesus and the manna from heaven, 6.30-59

A. Jesus is the bread of life, 6.30-35.

1. The Jews ask for a sign to authenticate his claims, illustrating their request with manna in the wilderness , 6.30-31.

2. Jesus’ reply: God, not Moses gives you the true bread from heaven which provides life to the world, 6.32-33.

3. The crowd’s request: Give us this bread , 6.33.

4. Jesus’ reply to the cry for bread: I am the Bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst , 6.35.

B. The will of the Father is connected to Jesus, 4.36-40

1. All that the Father gives to Jesus come to him, and he will never cast them out, 6.37.

2. Jesus came down out of heaven to do only his Father’s will, which is to lose nothing of what the Father has given him, to raise it up on the last day, and that all who see the Son and believe in him should have eternal life, 6.38-40.

C. The grumbling of the Jews to Jesus’ claims as the Bread from heaven , 6.41-51
