1. Jew’s grumbling: How can he say he is the bread come down from heaven? Isn’t he Joe’s boy, don’t we know his daddy and mama? , 6.40-41.

2. Their implied conclusion: There is no way on earth Jesus of Nazareth is from heaven.

3. Jesus’ reply: Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him , 6.44.

a. Everyone taught by the Father will come to Jesus, 6.45.

b. Not that anyone has seen the Lord except the One whom the Father has sent, 6.46.

c. Whoever believes has eternal life, 6.47.

4. Jesus is the Bread of life, the living Bread that comes down from heaven, 6.48.

5. Unlike their fathers who ate the manna and the wilderness and died, those who eat of this Living Bread will not die, but live forever, 6.49-50, 58.

6. The bread that Jesus gives for the life of the world is his own flesh, 6.51.

D. The Jews react to Jesus’ associating the Bread with his flesh , 6.52-59
