2. The Lord’s answer: neither he nor his parents, but that God’s glory might be displayed in him (notice the con nection with the works of God and his praise and glory )

a. John 11.4 – But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

b. John 11.40 – Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

c. John 14.11-13 – Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. [12] “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. [13] Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

d. Acts 4.21 – And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.

B. Working God’s works in the world as the light of the world, 9.4-5

1. Jesus’ mandate to do the works of the Father while in the world, John 5.19 – So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.”
