Site-Developed Courses and Certificate Programs
While The Urban Ministry Institute offers various programs to cover what we believe represents the core areas of urban theological education, we encourage you to offer programs or certificates related to unique ministry fields, experiences of your faculty, or the various training internships you provide locally. Your only limits will be the expertise of the faculty that God raises up, the resources you obtain and provide your students, and the length and breadth of your imagination. Be open to meeting the real needs of your students. Seek to innovate as you design training experiences and courses which address directly the pressing needs of your students, their churches, and the communities they serve. Site-Developed Courses In virtually every metropolitan area, you will find a wealth of theological and biblical resources right in your own community through various mentors, professors, pastors, or other educators who can contribute to your own well- rounded curriculum. A significant benefit of partnering with TUMI National is our enthusiasm about site-developed courses and programs. In considering your own certificate, we strongly suggest that you employ a standard curriculum, and use professor-created or self-written (site-developed) courses as support. In all our programming, we seek to retrieve the Great Tradition, but offer training in light of contemporary issues and local needs. Our desire is that you find the right theological resources to design the most appropriate training curriculum you can for your students. In accepting you as a satellite, we affirm your need and opportunity to explore your own ministry training initiatives to equip your students locally. Still, we want to ensure at every level academic integrity, theological orthodoxy, and vital ministry training. In order to help you as you consider your own programs, we ask that you follow a few essential criteria in the formulation of your programming. In order for your training regimen to qualify for a site approved Certificate, you will need to retain the balance of providing 8 credit hours in each department area: Biblical Studies, Theology and Ethics, Christian Ministry, and Urban Mission.
