The purpose of the Department of Biblical Studies is to provide training in understanding and communicating the Word of God in the urban context.

II. Affective Goals

The learners demonstrate:

A. Confidence in the authority and relevance of the Bible. B. Eagerness to know and to obey the Word of God. C. Commitment to discover and defend truth.

D. Willingness to genuinely listen to those with opposing viewpoints. E. Contrition over personal and social sin as revealed in the Scriptures. F. Dedication to equipping God’s people for ministry.

III. Action Goals The learners:

A. E ngage in a consistent schedule of personal and corporate reading, memorization, meditation, and study of the Word of God. B. E xegete and apply a passage of Scripture using sound interpretive methods. C. E xamine a book of Scripture and discern its central themes and relation to other books and doctrines of Scripture. D. E xegete and contextualize the message of a scriptural passage, book, or major doctrine. E. U se the Word of God to overcome satanic deception, oppression, or bondage.
