Day 5

Take a moment and pray before reading the following passage. Pray that God will open your heart and mind to the truth of his Word. If you have time, read the passage more than once—underlining things that stand out to you. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8.14-17 Father God, we come to you in Jesus’ name, believing when we received your Spirit we were no longer fearful slaves. Instead, we are adopted as your children. I thank you that I can now call you Father and your Spirit affirms that I am your child. Because I am your child I am an heir of your glory with Christ. Yet, your Word tells us, if we share in Christ’s glory we must also share in his suffering. Help me endure and develop a deep resolve to follow Christ no matter my present circumstances. Help me to follow as I’m led by your Spirit. I can always be confident you are a perfect guide who will protect and provide wherever you take me. Thank you for always being a good Father. Amen.
