In other words, the testimony of the Gospels are confirmed and underscored in the preaching, writing, and prophecy of the rest of the New Testament. As you emphasize the centrality of Jesus’ death, it may be helpful for you to be aware of the some of the central texts whereby Jesus demonstrates that his death is part and parcel of his reason for coming into the world. This awareness of the necessity of his own death controls much of Jesus’ actions and dialogue. Isa. 53.8 - By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? Isa. 53.12 - Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
