Conclusion
» The OT provides us with a look at certain character types which give solid witness to Christ and his soon-to-be-consummated kingdom reign. » By giving careful attention to the lives of Adam, Joseph, and Joshua, we more clearly understand Jesus’ identity as Head of a new humanity, as Savior and Redeemer of his kinsmen, and as a Mighty warrior in God’s conquest. » Studying the types of Scripture can open up to us a whole new understanding of the glory and majesty of the one of whom the whole Bible speaks, Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of the Living God. The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. We saw in this section how the OT, in providing us with a credible witness to the person of Christ, pictures forth the Messiah in certain character types which enable us to see aspects of the Messianic ministry more poignantly and clearly. Three of these special characters are Adam, Joseph, and Joshua. As we investigate the dimensions of their lives and experiences more closely, we can see Jesus’ own identity as Head of a new humanity, as Savior and Redeemer of his kinsmen, and as our Mighty warrior in God’s conquest. Being able to properly and rigorously study these types can provide us with a new appreciation of the unity of the Scriptures, as well as a whole new understanding of the glory and majesty of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of the Living God. Review these character types in the questions below. 1. What rules apply in connection to certain characters in the OT and the way in which they help us comprehend Christ’s role as head of humanity, redeemer of his kinsmen, and warrior in God’s conquest? Who are the characters that coincide with these dimensions? 2. Which of these special characters is mentioned in the NT, and which are not? Does their lack of direct association in the NT preclude them from being legitimate character types to help reveal the nature and work of Messiah? Explain.
